Old buildings as low-energy housing units

The fact that Neopor® can turn old buildings into low-energy housing units has been proven by BASF in Ludwigshafen, Germany. A mere three liters of heating oil per square meter per year with a concurrent reduction of the volume of CO2 emissions by more than 80 percent – BASF’s Three-Liter House achieves these impressive figures. This highly modern building is a completely renovated old building from the year 1930. In comparison to an old building that has not been renovated, the annual heating consumption drops by a factor of 7 to 10: instead of 23 liters of oil per square meter, consumption is now only 3 liters. For tenants in a 100-m2 apartment, this means a reduction in heating costs from 700 euros to less than 100 euros per year.

The savings can be ascribed primarily to the thermal insulation with 20-cm Neopor® panels on the exterior walls. |
